The lab currently has an opening for a funded PhD position on engineering self-assembling protein-based compartments in cell-free transcription and translation reactions. The goal is to develop programmable materials to spatially and temporally organize biochemical reactions in life-like systems that we construct from the bottom up.

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in molecular biology, biophysics, bioengineering or biochemistry. Prior experience with some of the following methods is a plus: microscopy, microfluidics, cell-free protein synthesis, molecular cloning and protein purification, computational modeling.

Are you excited about synthetic biology and using creative approaches to engineer biological systems? We would be delighted to welcome you to our young, growing team at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg. You will further benefit from the cutting-edge facilities of the institute and the opportunity to join the IMPRS-Mic graduate school.

Position start: Flexible between July-October 2021.

For more information and to apply email Henrike. To apply please send a motivation letter explaining your background and what makes you interested in the position, your CV, and contact information of two referees.
